Starting a Commission

Commissioning an original painting is a great way to get a special piece of art custom made for your home or as a gift. A commission is a collaboration between client and artist. We will start the process together to determine what your needs are and all of the specifics.

Understanding your vision is crucial to the design process so we will begin with a meeting, phone conversation, and/or email exchange. I want to get to know you, your vision, and how my art will live in your space. Together we make decisions regarding style, dimensions, colors, and framing.

Looking at my current body of work, we will talk about what you are drawn to and what your vision is for our collaboration. What colors do you love and which ones do you want to avoid? If you know where your painting is going to hang, photos of that space and the surrounding environment are very helpful to me (as are any other photos that inspire you!).

Logistics

Here’s how the time line and the details of the commissions process work:

  • I will gladly provide you with a consult to talk about your vision and how it will fit within my style of artwork and provide you with an estimate of the cost.

  • After you have decided to go ahead with the commission, I will provide you with contract including payment structure and time line for the project, most commissions take 4-6 weeks to complete. I do not do commissions on a rush timeline.

  • A non-refundable 50% down payment is required upfront, the final payment will be made when the painting is ready to ship or be delivered. Shipping is separate.

  • Given the nature of the abstract, fluid work I do, revisions to the finished piece are usually not possible. It will depend on what style I’m working in for your piece. We can decide if you want to see the final piece before it ships or if you want to be surprised!

  • If you don't like the final product, you may decide to not purchase the final piece, however, the 50% deposit is not refundable.

  • I accepted a limited number of commissions per month.

"I just wanted to let you know that the more we live with your painting the more we love it. Your use of colors really brings the whole room together and gives the room a “finish”. It makes me really happy. Thanks again so much."
